Paul Wonsek has been designing in New York and regional theaters for thirty years. He has been resident designer at the Repertory Theater of St. Louis, the Starlight Theater in Kansas City, the Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia and the Hudson Guild Theater in New York City. He was also Art Director and Production Manager for twelve years at The Muny in St. Louis, the largest outdoor theater in the United States. His design credits range from
An Evening with Mikhail Baryshnikov, to Dorothy Hamill in Fantasy on Ice, to Franco Zefferelli’s
Swan Lake, to the national tour of The Wizard of Oz with Cathy Rigby, winner of the Hollywood Dramalog Award. He has designed most of the major American musicals, with such performers as Richard Harris, Howard Keel, Joel Grey, Tommy Tune, Ginger Rogers, and Mickey Rooney. His New York productions include the award-winning musical
Brownstone with Maureen McGovern; The Love Talker with Laura San Giacomo;
Knuckle, nominated for the Maharam Scene Design Award; and Blood Relations, winner of the Villager Lighting Design Award. He is a Design-Director Member of the United Scenic Artists, with professional certification in scenery, lighting and costume design and scenic painting.
